Who are the Knights?
The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic men's fraternal benefit society that was formed to render financial aid to members and their families. Mutual aid and assistance are offered to sick, disabled and needy members and their families. Social and intellectual fellowship is promoted among members and their families through educational, charitable, religious, social welfare, war relief and public relief works.

The history of the Order shows how the foresight of Father Michael J. McGivney, whose cause for sainthood is being investigated by the Vatican, brought about what has become the world's foremost Catholic fraternal benefit society. The Order has helped families obtain economic security and stability through its life insurance, annuity and long-term care programs, and has contributed time and energy worldwide to service in communities.

The Knights of Columbus has grown from several members in one council to more than 12,000 councils and 1.7 million members throughout the United States, Canada, the Philippines, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Panama, the Bahamas, the Virgin Islands, Guatemala, Guam and Saipan.

4th Degree EmblemAny Third Degree member in good standing, one year after the anniversary of his First Degree, is eligible for membership in the Fourth Degree. The primary purpose of the Fourth Degree is to foster the spirit of patriotism by promoting responsible citizenship and a love of and loyalty to the Knights' respective countries through active membership in local Fourth Degree groups (called "assemblies"). Certain members of the Fourth Degree serve as honor guards at civic and religious functions, an activity that has brought worldwide recognition to the Knights of Columbus.

The Fourth Degree members of our Council are members of the Msgr. Kivelitz Assembly #650 The Assembly holds meetings at alternating locations on the first Wednesday of each month. The Assembly has approximately 160 members from four different Councils including; Prince of Peace Council #5903, Englishtown, Freehold Council #1672, Father McGivney Council #6392, Lincroft/Marlboro and Perrineville Council #13325. This Assembly is part of the Second New Jersey District.

Ladies Auxiliary
The Ladies Auxiliary has a vital support role in the council. They do this by providing help at events, organizing events to provide monetary support for their own causes as well as Council initiatives. Currently, our Council does not have a formal Ladies Auxiliary. That being said, every member of this Council is sincere in the understanding that our wives are a vital part of all that we do.

Squires
Squires EmblemUnder the guidance of Christian Brother Barnabas McDonald (1865-1929), the first Columbian Squires circle was instituted in 1925. Membership in the Squires is for Catholic boys between the ages of 12 and 17. Squires' activities are many, varying from spiritual to active service for the Church and community. Each circle elects officer members from their own rank, teaching skills of leadership and responsibility.

Our Squires circle was recently formed under the leadership of Past Grand Knight John Harris. The circle currently has 18 members. Anyone interested in membership information should call the Council at (732) 446-8805 and leave a message for John Harris. Alternatively, send an email to info@kofc5903.org and reference "Squires Membership" in your message.
